Romain GREGOIRE (AG2R Citroën Team U19) is the big winner of the 33rd edition of the Ain Bugey Valromey Tour !
While Lenny MARTINEZ (Equipe de France) and Cian UIJTDEBROEKS (Auto Eder) were expected to battle it out for overall victory, it was the French junior champion who came out on top in Les Plans d'Hotonnes with stage victory and the yellow jersey.
At the start of the final stage, Lenny MARTINEZ was just one second ahead of Cian UIJTDEBROEKS in the overall standings. In a fifth and final stage that was Dantesque in both profile and weather, it didn't take long for the favourites to get going. All eyes were on the duel between Lenny and Cian, the two main protagonists of this 33rd edition. But it was Romain GREGOIRE who came out on top. The AG2R Citroën Team rider, 5th overall at 1″09 from MARTNEZ, had already put in a fine performance on the Col du Grand Colombier 2 days earlier, and put in a perfect last climb to relegate Cian UIJTDEBROEKS to 2″49 and Lenny Martinez to 3″33 at the finish in Les Plans d'Hotonnes.
Romain GREGOIRE wins the 2021 edition of the Ain Bugey Valromey Tour and is joined on the podium by Cian UIJTDEBROEKS (2nd) and Lenny MaARTINEZ (3rd).
